Frequently Asked Questions

What is your policy if my child should miss dance class?

No refunds or deductions are given for classes missed. If a student is absent due to illness, missed classes may be made up in another class. Good attendance is essential to the progress of your child. Excessive absences may cause a child to become discouraged and/or lose interest.

What are your drop off/pick up requirements?

Students should be dropped off no earlier than 15 minutes prior to class time and should be picked up immediately after class is dismissed. We cannot be responsible for children left at the dance studio unattended by a parent or guardian. This rule includes siblings of students as well.

What will my child need for dance class?

Students are required to wear leotards, tights and correct dance shoes to class at all times. Both ballet and tap shoes are to be secured by elastic. The student's name must be written on all shoes. It is strongly advised that pre-school and combo students have a dance bag in which to keep their shoes.

Pre-schoolers and Combo students will need ballet and tap shoes.

All other students will need appropriate shoes for the type of class in which they are enrolled.

What holidays will the studio be closed?

The studio will close for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break. These are the only holidays on which the studio will close. We do not close for any other holidays or teachers' work days. If you have any questions, please call (256) 340-9933. To see the exact dates for these closings, please check out our studio calendar.

Am I allowed to watch my child in dance class?

In an effort to make every minute of class time valuable, we do not allow visitors in any of our classes. We have found that visitors tend to distract the students and interrupt their concentration. The only exception to the rule is "Observers Day" of which you will be advised in advance.

At what age can my child start dance class?

We begin dance classes with children 3 years old and potty-trained.

Is my child ready to advance to next level of classes?

This is a subject that you will need to discuss with your child's teacher at the conclusion of the dance year. Progression is based on ability and maturity, not necessarily age or experience.

Is my child required to participate in the recital?

Although we encourage every student to participate in the recital because it is the culmulation of all of their hard work as well as a wonderful learning experience, we do not require students to participate.

When can my child become a member of the River City Ensemble?

An open audition is held each year for students 7 years of age and up. If you are interested in auditioning for the ensemble, please request a information letter in the office or discuss it further with your child's teacher.
